Practice today at 6:00, we will be putting in a motion offense for the JV, this will be the same offense that middle school will use.   If you're sick, come anyway so you can see what we are doing.

No game tomorrow, next game Wednesday - 2 practices to put in some basics of the offense!

I just found out at practice Tuesday that the Leilehua league shut down because of lack of teams.  Honestly, I'm glad we're not playing and have practice days.   We were playing as more of a courtesy to Leilehua.

Another good game against a physical Kahuku team!

Slower start than the previous games but we managed to take the lead and never let it slip away.

The league director let us know that they are thinking of having some additional games next Saturday.  Times would be similar - early evening to evening.  Mentioned was a rematch with Kalani - the 1st game that we lost by about 20.  Possibly another game that same night.

We also discussed the Summer leagues that we are planning to join - Moanalua and Leilehua.

More information will be out about those leagues.

Meanwhile - practice continues on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  We also discussed the turnout out games - 12-13 girls vs. the turnout for practices.   It is difficult to add stuff in when you only have a 4-5 players at practice at one time.

Location may be moved to the high school gym this week - texts should be going out.  The request went in to the high school this past week.   As soon as I find out, the info will be posted here and text will go out.

I also want to start a shooting practice at least once a week - probably outside court.  I'm finishing up Summer School PE this week so will be available after school next week.   I'll let the girls know this week.

March 21. 2015 Saturday Varsity game update

Thanks to all that made it to the game today.

Played a really good Kalani team -3 guards that could shoot and  2 pretty skilled bigs.
The girls haven't worked on any specific offensive sets and it showed a little, although they did get off good shots, few of them went in.

Correction to Varsity league - they'll only need certain amount of players to fill in for each game.
They've asked Qiera, Kayla, Lia,  and Janae  to play the first game.  Shelby will be there if needed. These  are the girls they are most familiar with right now and  Coach John went over a man and a zone offense that the Varsity uses with these girls today at the District gym.

The Varsity league is comprised of mostly club teams - the level of basketball skilled players will be high.   Please come by if you can and check out the games whenever you can.

First game is Monday at 7:40 at Moanalua High School.

Sunday Clinic at 4:00 - 5:30 at high school gym.

Players need to have parents sign waiver/roster form before the game.

Also Saturday at Mililani District Gym at 1:30 there is referee training.  The girls will be able to scrimmage against one another while the refs train.

JV League Schedule is out, those at practice today got a copy.

Kilauea Gym -

so far that's all that's come out.

Parents will need to sign ROSTER & WAIVER form prior to playing.

We'd like at least 10 girls to be there at each game.  Roster has to be finalized by March 28th game.

Only the first 2 weeks are day games.  The rest will be evening first game 5:15, last game 7:45  - at least that's what I understand.   So if you're not available the first 2 weeks but are available for the evening games, please sign up.

In addition, a few girls will be needed for the Varsity league that starts Monday evening.  Didn't get much info - but an evening game.

The coaches will be talking to players to see about their interest and availability.

Forms were sent home on Tuesday for the Summer Varsity league.   Some of the JV girls will probably have to play in the Varsity league.

The JV league is set to begin on March 21st - Saturday.  Forms should be coming soon as well as how much and hopefully a schedule.

Good Session this morning at 16 acres!  Coach Black led them through ball handling and shooting drills.  Next practice is at the Kipapa courts on Tuesday from 6-8pm.

We had a good turnout of middle school girls - Lia, Teona, Lauren, Maxine, Qiera, Kayla, Shelby.
They joined some of the Varsity players - Kayla Torres, V,  Taylor Walker & Taysia.

They are joining the spring JV League.   We need the commitments at this time of who will be playing in the spring league.  Games will be played on Saturdays -  afternoons and evenings.

Coach Brent will be the head coach for the JV team, this year I'll be helping the JV out.  Coach Brent has been assisting Coach Sparrow the past few years.

Unfortunately, it looks like there are no funds to pay for the entrance fee.   Fees would be somewhere in the $40 - $50 range per player, depending on how many join.   If they do not have a black/gold jersey from last summer, they'll also need to purchase that for around $20.   Those who do have the black/gold jerseys we need your number for the roster.  7th, 8th, & 9th graders will be accepted to play in the JV league.

First game is set for March 21st.  Time to be announced.

Like I mentioned, should be some good competition and good way to measure where they are and where they need to get to.

Thanks to all who came out to the Celebration last Saturday!   Special thanks to all those who brought desserts!  Bernie and her 3 tier desserts was a special treat for all.

This Friday, we have all 15 girls going to Kaimuki Middle - Kilauea Gym.  First game against Kaimuki at 9:00 am, 2nd game vs. Kahuku at 11:00.  Players need be at school by 7:45am and meet at the bus lane.  Bus will leave at 8.   They all should bring a change of clothes - we will be collecting the uniforms.  On track students should be prepared to go to their last classes that day.  Bring lunch with them.  Parents are welcome to watch the games too.

The high school informed me that they will be playing in 2 Summer leagues and need to know how many of the players will want to play.  Prefer 8th grade but 7th graders have played in the past.  They are also looking to start practices at outside courts around Mililani - probably Mondays, Wednesday,  & Thursdays..  Time will be early evening 5-7, later if they get some gym time.

Lastly - the basketball clinic that the High School coaches run on Sundays start at 4:00.  I strongly recommend getting the girls there to get more drills and to get to know the coaches.  The cost is only $3.  Go to the B2B website and download the waiver form and bring it if it will be the first time there. I will start helping out at the clinics as well.

Happy Valentine's Day!

A nice way to end the season with a win versus Waialua.

Some highlights:
Having all the girls at the game!
Giving up only 1 point.
Executing the opening tip play we went over with the 8th grade girls before the game.
An old one we used to use a couple of years ago when we had Hope Carter jumping center.
Lauren's reverse layup!

Also today the MidWeek magazine was covering the games.  The reporter/photographer took some pictures and if anyone is not okay with their daughters picture appearing in the newspaper, please let me know right away.   He asked specifically about Trinity and Daisy but others may be in the background.  Whether or not any of our pictures are in or not will be up to the editors.  You can email Anthony Consillio at aconsillio@midweek.com if you have any concerns.

The 7th grade girls went undefeated, 6-0, this year and are the Central District Champions.
The 8th grade girls went 5-1, and ended up Co-Champions with Moanalua & maybe Wahiawa.

Basketball Celebration set for next week Saturday, the 21st from 9 am to noon.
We'll be giving out certificates to the girls, we have catered food from Mililani Restaurant, and play some games at the Park & Ride courts.   If the weather is wet, we'll move to the Cafeteria.  Parents and families invited - $10 per person for the food and drinks.  We do have a minimum of 50 for the catering so please RSVP!

We will have practice rain or shine.

Depending on the weather, we'll be at the middle school or down at the courts.

Game tomorrow at Leilehua H.S. Gym, our game is scheduled for 10:45, please have the girls at the gym by 10:00 am.   Waialua has no girls 7th team, so the 7th grade boys will start at 10:15, with our game to follow.

We will have all the girls playing this game.

There is no bus.  Paperwork for our "banquet" will be passed out tomorrow as well.  It's been moved to the Park and ride courts on Saturday, February 21st, from 9am to Noon.

We are coming to the end of the basketball season for this school year!
Here's the short version:
- Both teams won today.
- Last Central District game next week, everyone playing - only 1 game.
- Banquet February 21st
- Have a good weekend.....

Details....

Two good wins today against Aiea.

7th grade girls had a little more trouble pulling away, but ended up with a 15-8 win.
With only 5 girls available, we had to turn down the defense a bit.

8th grade girls had an easier time with a 19-0 win.   Balanced offensive attack and sold defense led to the win.

Our last Central district game is next Saturday at Leilehua vs Waialua.  Since this is our last game and Waialua only has one girls team, all the girls will be playing.   If it wasn't our last game, the 7th graders wouldn't be playing, because if they did play against an 8th grade team, they wouldn't be able to play on the 7th grade team the rest of the season.

Field trip forms for Blue, Yellow and Green tracks should be turned in this week.  Red Track will have to wait to get their classroom teachers to sign their forms when they return.

We also have a basketball banquet on February 21st, Saturday.  Somewhere around 9-12 am at the Middle School.  We are finalizing plans and will be sending information out this coming week.

Mid-Week Update:

Grade Check Clarification:  Grade checks will be going out to blue and yellow track players.

Green has only been back for a couple of weeks and Red is off track.

Watched the MHS girl's Basketball game last night, last second shot won the game for Mililani 39-37 over Kaiser.  That win put them into the State tournament.  They have one more OIA playoff game for 5th place tomorrow.  

Game this week is at Waialua High School, first game scheduled for 12 noon, but may start sooner against Aiea.   Hopefully, everyone is back healthy for the game.

Thursday's practice will start off in my classroom to view the game videos.   Practice will finish at the courts.

Great Superbowl game!!!

I think we all have an idea how the Seattle Seahawks feel!  To be winning and then have the other team come back and then not finish and win the game!!!

on the other side... We all have an idea how the Patriots feel.. coming back from a deficit and pulling out the win!!!

Our 2 games run the gamut of emotions - The high of pulling out the win and the low of seeing one slip away.   The thrill of victory....the agony of defeat!!!!

One thing we have to keep in mind is ....."We win as a team and we lose as a team."

This was the first lost for any of our girls and just reminds us that we have to keep getting better - players and coaches included!

Our final 2 games of the Central District season will be against Aiea and Waialua.

January 28, 2015 Wednesday Goodwill Games February 27th, Friday

Our Mililani Boys and Girls basketball teams have been invited to play at Kilauea District Gym on Friday, February 27th by host Kaimuki Middle School.   There will be one other middle school there to play.   Kaimuki has been hosting these games as a reward for the hard work that their teams put in over the season.  We view much the same!

Field Trip Forms will be sent out soon.  There is a $7.00 cost to pay for the bus transportation.
The bus will leave Mililani Middle at 8:00 am.  The girls are scheduled to play at 9 and 11 am.
Parents are welcomed to watch in the stands.  Many of the Kaimuki Middle students are brought down to watch the games too.  This is a Friday school day for all except Blue Track students.

Coach Justo and I will be starting to teach the Middle School Summer School PE classes on February 10th.  Coach Qina will be running practices when we are not able to make it.

Just a reminder, this Saturday should be our toughest games against Moanalua.  Please have the girls at Mililani High School gym by 7:30 am.  7th grade girls will be playing at 8:00 am.

As usual, practices Thursday and Friday at Park and Ride.

Grade Checks will be going out tomorrow as well.

Hi all,

We won both the games today at Nanakuli.  The games were difficult having to play on such a smaller court.  Some of the girls had a difficult time adjusting to the dimensions.  Overall, the play was sloppy and uncontrolled.  

Apparently the Waianae girls team was unable to play today.  We were scheduled to play them for the first game.  As a result, it was more like a full game, with 4 quarters.   

Thanks to all who came out to support the girls.

This coming week's schedule:

Monday, Thursday, Friday Practice at Park and Ride Courts, regular times.

Saturday 8:00 am game at Mililani High School.  No bus, please have the girls at the Gym before 7:30 am.   Since we are the first game, we should have a good warm up.

January 19, 2015 Monday Senior Night Tuesday!

All players are invited to come to tomorrow's Senior Night game for the girls varsity team.
They will be admitted free if they wear their team tshirt.  They'll have a list at the door.   Don't wear your uniform!

JV game starts at 5:30, Varsity game around 7.   We have former players who are seniors.  The JV game will give the girls an idea of what to expect, but honestly, both our JV team right now and Waipahu's JV are not too strong.  The varsity team brought up most of the talented Freshman and Sophomores, and some of the girls who play JV basketball also play JV soccer so they won't be there.

FYI:  Senior night going on down at the Stadium for Girls Varsity Soccer.

JANUARY 18, 2015 Sunday

Two good wins yesterday!  Thanks for all of you who came out to watch.

7th Grade team:  Missed opportunities almost cost us the game!
Too many easy shots that we didn't convert.  3 for 25 (12%) shooting!

On the positive - we got 25 quality shots!  And we really limited their offense to a few shots with some decent defense.

Very similar to 8th grade team against Wahiawa, where they shot 4-18 within 4 feet of the basket.

Speaking of 8th grade, after that woeful shooting against Wahiawa, the 8th grade shot an amazing  10 for 13 (76%).   However - they also committed 17 turnovers!  Poor passing/receiving.

Defensively - looking better.   We allowed several drives to the basket that can not be allowed.

This week's schedule:

Monday practice 8 - 10 am  at the park and ride.

Thursday Practice to start in my room at 245 to watch film and then we'll go to the Park and ride courts.

Friday Practice at Park and Ride.

Saturday:  Games at Nanakuli High School.  Bus leaves middle school at 8am.  First game is at 9am, Second at about 9:45 am.   Not sure who we are playing, could be both games against Nanakuli, both against Waianae, or 1 game against each.   I already know that Kayla is out of town that day, so we may have to move players around.

Raining here at this time,  Check back here at around 1:30 for a final call regarding practice today.

We did talk with players about being at Leilehua High School by 9:30 am tomorrow.  And those who possibly needed a ride were offered rides by others.

I also let them know about next Saturday's games at Nanakulu High School.  Bus leaves at 8 am.
1st girls game at 9am.

Hi all,

Game this Saturday is at Leilehua High School with the 7th grade girls scheduled for 10:15 against Aliamanu. 

There is no bus for this game.  Some of the players may need a ride to the game, we'll figure that out during practice tomorrow/Friday.  

Please be at Leilehua by 9:30. 

We also will be playing on Saturday, January 24th at Nanakuli High School.  The 7th grade team and 8th grade team will be playing separate games against either Nanakuli or Waianae Intermediate teams.  First game is set for 9am, bus will leave MMS at 8am.  The bus is being paid by Nanakuli/Waianae teams - I think they have a grant for their athletic programs.

Hi All,

For tomorrow's game, let's meet at the parking lot outside of McDonald's at 10:30 am.   Some of the players need a ride to the game.   Game is scheduled for 12:00.  Should be over by 12:45.

Lunch after is an option for those who want to go somewhere, we can figure that out for those who want to go after the game.  There was some discussion about the trying to go on the hike but I'm gonna need to get home after lunch.

Just a Reminder:  Red, Blue, & Yellow track students return to school Tomorrow - Wednesday!!!

Here's the format for Saturday's game at Kilauea District Gym:

16 minute halves, clock stops for time outs and 2 shot fouls.  Last 2 minutes of game, clock stops with referee whistle.

3 Timeouts per game

Bonus 1 and 1 after 7th team foul of half, 2 free throws on 10th foul.

Overtime:  2 minute stop time, Double overtime - 1st to score

Mercy rule:  If team leads by 20 points or more, Zone defense only inside 3 point line. 

So much better game format than ours!!!!

January 4, 2014 Sunday Night

Hi all,

No practice until Thursday, January 8th!   Hope the girls enjoy their last few days of break!

We do have a game at Kilauea District Park on Saturday, January 10th, game set for 12:00 noon, please be there by 11:15.  As soon as I get the game rules for the league, I'll pass them on to you.

We will be playing Stevenson Middle School and this will be their first game of their season.

We will set up rides for players who do not have rides during practices Thursday and Friday.

Hope you had a good time at the Wahine game!  Hopefully the girls were able to see how hard and physical the women play.
