December 30, 2014 Tuesday

Wow, a couple of really good games today.  Wish our regular season games were just as long!

We've been working on our defense and transition game and both looked improved.  Hard work, pays off!!!

Thanks to all the family members that came out and supported the team!

A Special Thanks to Jose (Kayla's dad) for reffing both games!

Enjoyed lunch up at Wa'ahila Ridge - the rain, wind, and clouds moved in fast!!!   Got a quick glimpse of the beauty of the ridge - was one of my favorite places to get away from it all.

Practice on Friday - UH Wahine game as well.  Practice 8-10:30, Wahine game is scheduled for 5:00.
Got confirmation that our group tickets are good to go, I'll need to pick them up at the box office.
Plan to be at UH Stan Sheriff at 4:30.   btw:  the food isn't the greatest at the Wahine games.

Have a safe New Year's eve and New Years Day.

December 29, 2014 Monday Important info for Tuesday!

Here's the schedule for tomorrow:

7:45 Meet at Mauka McDonald's Parking lot - actually the parking lot next to it where the Chicken Wings place is.  More parking spaces there.

8:00 Leave the Mililani and proceed to Kilauea Gym.

Shortest Route

H1 Freeway, to Moanalua Freeway

Take Exit 26A Kokohead

Turn Left onto Pahoa Avenue

First Right onto Ocean View - stay on Ocean View (you'll be going through neighborhood with a lot 

of stop signs)  

Eventually you'll reach the end of Ocean View, turn Left onto Kilauea Avenue.

Gym will be on your right.

Longer but easier directions:

Take exit 26 Waialae Avenue (stay in right lane)

Turn right (don't go straight!) onto Hunakai Street.

Right onto Kilauea Avenue, the gym will be on your left.

9:30 1st Game 7th Graders

10:30? 2nd Game 8th Graders

Pick up lunch at Rainbow Drive in - Take out!!! Address:  3308 Kanaina Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815

Drive up to St. Louis Heights - Wa'ahila Ridge State Park

   Directions: From Waialae Avenue, proceed up St. Louis Drive. Wind up the road, turning right on Peter St. near the top. At the end of Peter (at the cul-de-sac), turn left on Ruth St., continuing into Wa‘ahila Ridge State Recreation Area. Park in the provided parking lot and follow trailhead signs.

Eat there and then hike up the ridge.  

Don't wear your nice shoes!!!  May be muddy in some spots.   Something with grip on soles would be best.   Total 2.4 miles up and back.   Not too hard of a hike, but some boulders to climb down and up....it will be fun!!!

Put those directions somewhere accessible!!!  Good chance we'll get separated along the way.

Christmas Day 2014

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

We had a couple of good practices up at 'Ike this week and a fun get together with all the coaches and all the players!   It was great to have all 15 girls there.

Plan on going out to eat (place to be determined) and then an activity - Diamond Head Hike is a possibility.  We will need drivers!!!  Meet at parking lot outside of Mauka McDonald's at 8:00 am.
We'll leave shortly after that.

The girls were a huge help at the Fundraiser distribution today.  Everyone had great things to say about how well they worked together and how hard they worked.  It was a nice surprise for the girls (and me) for them to receive the Jamba Juice cards from the PCNC!  

Thanks for getting the girls there on time.

We managed to win both games today.  Both games a little bit of a struggle.

6/7th girls have not been scored upon yet!  

8th grade girls held on, with a final assist from Teona to Kalena.

December 19, 2014 Friday Help Needed Saturday morning....

Saturday morning the Girl's Basketball team will be helping out with the Fundraising distribution at the MMS cafeteria from 9:00am to 10:30 am.   We will be assisting with bagging, organizing, and distributing the various fundraising items.

The proceeds raised during this event funds our sports programs here at Mililani Middle, including paying for equipment and the buses.   Parents are welcomed to help out as well.

As a reminder, practice will be ending at 4:30 today.

Reminder:  Tomorrow's practice will start at 2:30 and end at 4:30.  School is out at 2:05 tomorrow.

Wahine ticket orders?  Please turn in as soon as possible.  The form is okay for now, I can collect the money later.  Just need to make sure we have the 24 minimum to order group tickets.

December 17, 2014 Wednesday

Practice Tomorrow will start off in my classroom:  Library Bldg to watch video of the games.

Players are to report straight to my classroom after school, do not go to change first.

Video will start at 2:45,  players can change while the other team's video is on.

Would like to get Wahine ticket order forms in by this week.  Payments now preferred, but can be collected later.

December 15, 2014 Monday Practice on - rain or shine

1:30 Post:  Practice at Park & Ride Courts:  Wahine game payment form will be sent home today.

10 am Post:   (at approximately 1:30 a post will be made announcing where practice will be held)

We will have practice today.  If courts are wet, we will meet in my Classroom, B-Bldg to view video of Saturday's games.  The Video don't Lie!

If dry, we will have practice at the Park and Ride courts.  We'll view video on Thursday.

We will also take care of Secret Santa assignments and discuss the upcoming break schedule and expectations.

Finally, according to the responses we have 32 going to the Wahine basketball game on January 2nd, which qualifies us for the group discounts.

A form will be sent home to confirm your numbers and to pay for the tickets.  The discounted price is $5 for adults, $2 for children.    The group request and money needs to get to the Wahine Basketball office at least a week before the game.  Would like to take care of this by the end of this week.

Game this coming Saturday is at Aiea High School, 12:00 game time, bus leaves Middle School before 11:00 am.

December 13, 2014 Saturday

Thinking that this may be a first, shutouts for both teams!

6/7th game:  Tight defense led to turnovers and scoring opportunities.  Looking at the statistics - we had 5 assists that led to 10 of the 19 points we scored!

Highlight of the game:  Qiera pass to Emma, Emma finishing!

Things to improve:  turnovers.

8th grade game:  Started a little sluggish and lack of fight!  We will need to work on "toughness" on the floor.  Only a 4-0 halftime score.

Second half, picked up the intensity a little and ended strong with some baskets off steals/transition.  

Things to improve:  Communication on the court.

Highlight:  Running the offensive set and feeding Trinity who scored!

Practice this coming week:  Regular schedule:  Monday, Thursday, Friday.
Hope to get the Secret Santa out to players by Thursday.

Next game is at Aiea High School against Wahiawa at 12:00 scheduled start.  I'd say be there by 11: 40 or so.  We may start early.  

December 12, 2014 Friday Night

Our first Central District game is tomorrow at Radford High School.

Players should be riding the bus tomorrow unless prior notice to the coaches was given and should be at the PE locker room area by 10:45.  The bus is scheduled to leave at 11:00.

Please have your child eat breakfast and maybe a light snack before coming up to the middle school. 

In the past,  Radford High School has not allowed  sports drinks onto the courts.  Only water filled bottles.  

If your child is not returning on the bus,  please let the coaches know that you are taking your daughter.  We must personally see you with your child before leaving.  Please do not just take your child with you without letting us see you!!!

Games are fast, each game will last less than 30 minutes.  Try to be early to the games!  If they are ahead of schedule in the games (there are 6 schools playing at the same site), the games may start earlier than scheduled.

The 6/7 team is scheduled to play at 12:00 noon. Followed by the 6/7 boys at 12:30, 8th grade girls at 1:00 and 8th grade boys at 1:30.  

Enjoy the games and keep cheering positive.

For those players returning on the bus to MMS, expect a text/call from them as we approach the middle school.  Prompt pick up of your child will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all!

Back to regular schedule this week, Monday, Thursday, & Friday.  We'll start preparing for specifics of our first 2 opponents - Wheeler & Wahiawa.

Two weeks away from season opener on December 13th.  Just a reminder the games order is:

7th grade girls, 7th boys, 8th girls, 8th boys.  The games are less than half an hour, so don't be late!

Thanks to Coaches Justo & Qina for running practices.  Just returned after a week+ visiting my girls at the U of Oregon.

We have been trying to get another preseason game for the girls, but have been unsuccessful.

November 4, 2014 Tuesday Nite....

Game update for Thursday:

Girls will be meeting after school at the PE locker rooms to change and get ready for the game.  We will be leaving from the bus lane side of the school like we have for other games. 

If you are able to transport players on Thursday, please meet us on the bus lane side of the school in between the bathrooms at the park and the bus entrance.  We will leave around 3:15.  

Players should be dressed in Blue uniform side and wear T-shirt for warmups.  

Hope you can make it out to the game!

November 3, 2014 Monday

Practice today will be held - rain or shine!!!  If wet at the courts, we will hold it at MMS.  End time 5:00.

Practice tomorrow will be at 8:30 - 10:00 at the Park & Ride courts.

I will be there from 8:00 for those who want to shoot around some.

Please coordinate rides with one another to get to and from practice.

We also got dates and locations of our Central District league:

January 31 at Mililani

Game times and opponents will be sent out as soon as they finish the game schedule.   Schools have to inform the coordinator of how many teams they will be fielding.  One of those dates will be a bye week for us as well.  

Lastly  -  this Thursday's games at Hanalani will be at 4:00 6/7 team, 5:15 8th, 6:30 Boys.

Please meet at Hanalani's gym at 3:30, both teams will warm up together.
We are looking for additional pre-season games...

We will have practice today - if it's wet, we'll be at the middle school.  If it's dry we'll be at the Park and Ride courts.

Some of our Red Track students have not been coming to practice most of the break.   I know some went on a trip, but if they are back, they should be coming to practice.

We also plan to practice on Election day to prepare for Hanalani games on Thursday, November 6th.

October 8, 2014 Wednesday

Hi all,
Much has happened since yesterday.   
No game next Tuesday.  Kapolei coach is unavailable on Tuesday. We mutually agreed to end the season instead of continuing.   A successful season for all of the girls.  

We will start up practice on Thursday, October 15th.  Please take the week to focus on studies.   We have scheduled a preseason game at Hanalani school on November 6th.  6/7 girls start at 430, 8th at 5:15, boys at 6:30.  

Finally, I had an incident yesterday while working out at home - punctured and collapsed lung. I'm pretty sure I didn't exhale on the way up and was holding my breath.  Anyway, as a result - I'm in the hospital until at least Friday as they monitor the healing.  See you all soon.  I'll be fine.

Hi all,
1:30 Monitoring the weather, so far okay in Kapolei - but clouds building up in the mountains (Makakilo).  Radar doesn't show anything moving in, but these are more "pop up" type showers.

2:30 No rain on radar in Kapolei, no call from Kapolei - game on.

I'm looking at NWS Radar - google radar mosaic hawaii, for better veiw of specific parts of Oahu - go to KITV Weather Radar and zoom in.

October 5, 2014 Sunday Nite

Hi all,
We will be playing this Tuesday at Kapolei Middle School.  Game is scheduled for 4:30.
The boy's game will follow are game as well.

If you are able to transport players to Kapolei Middle School on Tuesday,  please meet us outside the bathroom on the bus lane side of the school.  We should be leaving by 315 or so.

We will have practice tomorrow - Monday as usual at the park and ride courts.

September 30, 2014 Post Game.. No Game this Thursday!

5-0 with today's win.  Everyone contributed to the win and we're making improvements every game.  

No game this Thrusday!  Ewa Makai and Kapolei game was rained out.  They are scheduled for this Thursday.

We will need to wait to see who wins before we can figure out when we will play.   Most likely - Kapolei next Tuesday, however if Ewa Makai wins - game will have to wait another week because they go on Fall Break next week.

2:25 Update:
Game still on, please don't leave early for Highlands.  We will meet with the players at the locker rooms.   We will wait there until 3:20 or so.  If we get the call that it is raining in PC, players will text you.  If no call to me - then will start going to PC.

Hi all,
Great win versus Kapolei Tuesday, Coach Justo filled me in.   May play them again next week!   Today's game at Ewa Makai, playoffs are Tues & Th of next week.  

It's a chilly 54 degrees here in Eugene, cooler than usual.   Everyone wearing my "O" shirts for Oyama.

Game Cancelled for today.  We will be meeting in Mr. Oyama's room after school to discuss a few things and to get sizes correct for our "Game" uniforms.   If weather clears, we may head down to courts.  Otherwise, we should be done by 3:45 today.

Hi All,

3-0 with our win over Ewa Makai.   We are pleased with the effort in games, most of points are scored off of passes from others.   Fastbreak points have been scored too.  In these games that aren't so close, we are getting our less experienced girls more playing time.  

A huge thank you to Coach Tittle who volunteered to help out with the refereeing and to Jose Tansiongco for stepping in to do the boy's game. 

Tomorrow's game is a rematch with Pearl City.  We expect to improvement with all of our players.

Thank you for all the support and for the good sportmanship.

HI All,

Game tomorrow is at Ewa Makai.  There's a couple of ways to get there:

Directions:   Get onto freeway going to Kapolei/Waianae:

Then you have a couple of options.

1.  Take the Ewa Exit 5A and then merge onto  Fort Weaver Rd.     Drive for about 4 miles (many stoplights)  and then turn right after you see Foodland on your right.  This will be Gieger road.  Continue until you reach Kapolei Parkway.  Evw Middle will be on your right.

or

2.  Take the next exit - Exit3 - Kapolei and then turn left at stoplight, get in the left side lanes and then continue until you hit Kapolei Parkway.  Turn left, continue on Kapolei Parkway until you see Ewa Makai on right. 

Option #2 is longer but less lights to deal with.

FYI:  Ewa Makai beat Pearl City last Thursday.

We will hopefully get more playing time for our less experienced players this week.

Wow, quite a game yesterday.  #23 is one of the most talented girls basketball players we will see.  Thanks to a total team effort, we pulled the game out 24-23.

Thank you to all the drivers and the support at the courts.  

Next game will be at Ewa Makai Middle on Tuesday, September 16th.

*** T-shirt order forms were due yesterday!!! Missing orders from half the team...
Please turn in as soon as possible, so we can order the shirts in time for the end of this current league.

September 11, 2014 Thursday Game Today at Kapolei Middle!

Families, 
Thanks to all of the families who came out and supported the team on Tuesday - and a special thanks to those who transported players who needed a ride.

Final score of the game was 26-8.   The coaches thought our girls played hard.
Many of our girls played very nervously and as a result, had a difficult time executing.  Panic set in and we committed way too many turnovers.  

Today's game against Kapolei will be more competitive.   

Getting to Kapolei Middle is pretty simple:

1.  Take the H2, then the Waianae EXIT1B to H1, pass the Ewa exit.
2.  Then take Exit 3:  HI-8930, Kapolei/Ewa. 
3.  Take a left at the light onto Kualakai Pkwy, then get in the right lane.  That road will eventually end (it's about 3 mile stretch - you'll  see the rail construction on the left )
4.  Turn right onto Kapolei Parkway.  You will see Kapolei Middle School on your left and will have to make a U-Turn after seeing it to get to the parking lot.  Courts are to your left as you face the entrance.

We hope to leave the school by 3:15 or earlier  -  I think there will be road construction on Meheula by the school.

Families,

We have games at Pearl City Highlands, Tuesday - Outside courts, park by swimming pool - and at Kapolei Middle School on Thursday.

We are picking up the girls by the restrooms at the park next to the school - the street where the bus lanes are.  It's too crowded in the front of the school.   We plan to leave by 3:15.  If you are able to drive please meet us out there.

Reminders, $20 for the banquet and referees is due as soon as possible and the Tshirt order form is due by Thursday, September 11th.   We'd like to order them by the end of the week so that we can get them by the end of this current Fall Season.

Finally, remember we are guests at the host sites, please let the Players Play, The Coaches Coach, and the Referees to officiate!

We will be meeting to discuss team policies, expectations, and the upcoming games that start next week - format of games, rides to games, etc.  We'd also like to meet all of you and introduce ourselves.

More Forms!!!!!

T-Shirt order form!!!  We're trying to get our tshirts before this Fall league ends.  Forms and payment (cash only) are due Sept. 11th.   Show your Blazer pride by buying for all your family members.  For the first time, Last names will be put on back of T-shirt and player's numbers.

Grade checks are also being given to players today.   These are due by Thursday, Sept. 4th for eligibility for the next weeks (Sept 9th and 11th)

Finally, we are going to have a Parent Meeting after Thursday, Sept.  4th's practice.  This should be a short meeting to introduce everyone and go over team policies.  This will also be a good time to set up ride sharing for the Fall league games and answer any of your questions.

August 28th Thursday: Parent Letter and Forms passed out today!

An informational letter was sent out today along with forms that need to be signed and returned to us.  

Since you're looking at the blog, you must have read the letter!!!

August 26th Tuesday: Tryouts have Ended! Congratulations to those who made it!

Tryouts have concluded.   A schedule for all Fall League has was sent out yesterday (August 25th, Monday).  We will need drivers to pick up girls to take them to the games since we do not have busses available.
